here is what Brat webmaster of Depechemode.com posted on the DM Message board talking about what he heard about the brand new album.:

"I did not put the following info on dm.com, or on the "Announcements" mailing list, because it is something that happened to me. The dm.com site and mailing list are exclusively DM only. I only "webmaster" the site. I don't put any personal opinions or thoughts on the site. I thought you all might want to hear about this, though. Earlier this evening, I got into a car, and drove down to Jonathan Kessler's home (manager of DM). We had a meeting for about an hour regarding the site, and upcoming promotions (you *will* want to pay attention to depechemode.com in the coming week). After the meeting, he pulled out a CDR. It was the album! He had an unsequenced, unmastered CDR of the tracks from the new Exciter album. We walked into his kitchen (so as not to wake up his daughter), went to the small bookshelf kitchen CD player, pulled out disc 2 of The Beatles "Anthology 3", and popped in the disc. Damn! The first track I heard was "Dream On". Let's just say that all those Napster "demos" are 100% completely bogus (as if you all couldn't tell already)! This track is awesome. While I was missing out on some of the production work due to the small CD player (read: no bass), what I heard blew me away. David's vocals are fantastic. I thought his voice had improved on Ultra. That's nothing compared to this. Also, Martin's harmonies on "Dream On", and some of the other tracks I heard (I only heard about 8 tracks, none all the way through), were just amazing. Mark Bell should be commended for a great production job. Back to "Dream On". The heavy acoustic guitar, mixed with the analog sounds and David's voals are perfect. This *will* get radio airplay, there is no doubt. Again, I was missing out on some of the sound due to the little CD player, and I was a bit distracted as well. Jonathan was opening up packages of pictures from Mute (new band publicity shots - Anton did the pictures, and they are great!). While I did hear a lot of the songs, the only other one that immediately got my attention was "Goodnight Lovers". Do not let the title throw you off. The harmonies that David and Martin have on the track are pure DM. I wish I could be more descriptive, but I'm still in shock. Oh, and no, I do not have a copy. Please don't email me asking for one. You'll find a lot of new news on the site today, thanks to the meeting I had. There is a lot more coming *very* soon. I suggest that if you are not subbed to the DM Annoucements list, that you better do so soon. You may also want to make sure that all of your computers *sound* components are working properly (was that the sound of an anvil hitting the ground, or just a slight hint?). BRAT"

MTV News :
Depeche Mode are nearing completion of their 11th studio album, due in May, according to Reprise Records.
The synth-pop legends' as-yet-untitled new disc will include such tracks as "Dream On," "Breathe," "Sweetest Condition" and "When the Body Speaks."
It will be Depeche Mode's first full-length release since 1997's Ultra, which featured the singles "Barrel of a Gun" and "It's No Good," and it'll be their first new music since the 1998 maxi-single "Only When I Lose Myself," which included several previously unreleased tracks along with remixes by the Automator and DJ Shadow, but, peculiarly, no original version of the title track.

LFO co-founder Mark Bell, who worked on Björk's Homogenic (1997) and Selmasongs (2000) albums, is producing the new Depeche Mode disc.

The band - singer Dave Gahan and keyboardists Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher - is in the final stages of mixing the record and plans to release the first U.S. single, "Dream On," in April, a Reprise spokesperson said.
